INVESTIGATIVE JURISDICTION AND FUNCTIONAL GUIDE
Law 410 of December 30 1991, entitled "urgent provisions for the coordination of intelligence and investigative activities in the fight against organized crime" indicates the jurisdiction of the DIA and its relations with other Italian law enforcement agencies. ![]() In particular, the DIA is entrusted with the task of preventing the development of mafia-type organized crime through intelligence activities and ensuring coordinated intelligence efforts. This is one of the most significant novelties introduced by the law as it provides for the systematical analysis of the "enemy". The intelligence activity proves to be the crucial connection with the investigation and represents its starting point. As far as investigations are concerned, it must be pointed out that DIA investigative efforts focus mainly on criminal subjects rather than on single crimes. |
